Funerals/Scattering cremains in Los Angeles CA

My sister was cremated and her request was that I bury her ashes under a pink rosebush in my backyard on the property that I own.  Is this legal within Los Angeles county?

To the best of my knowledge it is legal to bury cremated remains on your own property anywhere in the State of California. If you plan to dig a hole and put her cremated remains directly in the ground or in a biodegradable urn, this should be fine, if her cremated remains are in a urn that does not biodegrade there are some things to consider.   My only advice to you would be that if you move from your home, to disinter her urn and move her with you when you leave or advise the new owners that her cremated remains are buried on the property. But be prepared that the new owner may not give you the right of access to this burial spot.

I have worked in the death care industry since 1977, owning my own funeral home since 1990. I worked as an EMT at a funeral home based ambulance service for 6 years gain much experience there. When I opened my funeral home, my goal was to provide honest, straightforward, significant and affordable services to the families who called upon me for my services. Since Sept. 2008, I have served as a member of the Oregon State Mortuary & Cemetery Board, which regulates the operation of mortuarys and cemeteries in Oregon. I have been a regular attendee and speaker at various funeral related seminars over the years and am a frequent contributor to "Mortuary Management" magazine. I was one of the first funeral directors in Oregon to offer "Green" or "Natural" burial services and to offer assistance to families who wish to take care of their own family members at home.
