Subject: Couple Questions about my 2001 Yukon Denali

Question
First of all... I wish there was a decent search feature on here so that people
dont keep on wasting your time for the same questions over and over again.
Make model and year search would be a start. And maybe a select tool to
help organize them in the first place.

Anyway. Thank you for your time you spend on here helping others like me!

1st problem with my 2001 Yukon Denali.
My front HVAC Controls have a click on the highest heat setting and one on
the lowest cool setting. When I adjust to the heat click... I get HOT air (good)
but when I move the knob right past the click on the "hot" side... Maybe
because it is getting too hot or just because I want a less intense "mixed"
heat, I dont get warm air... it just gets cold!(bad) What could be the problem?

Question 2,
I get a squeaking noise as the car is rolling forward. It is NOT the breaks. It squeaks i when I just let go of the break and "cruise" and it also squeeks (a
little faster with speed) when I accelerate. It doesn't matter if the road is
bumpy, if I am going very slow or fast except with the exception with higher
speeds which I think whatever is causing the noise is spinning way too fast to
"squeak, squeak, squeak" anymore.

I went to a repair shop to get my wheels balanced once, which was a long
time before the noise.. and they did note that both tie rod ends needed to be
replaced. Would they be the culprits or is it possibly something else?

And I guess my 3rd and last question... Why hasn't GM put out a recall on
their fuel gauge issue? I seem to see it is a very common problem which I do
have, and can possibly leave someone stranded on the road due to an
improper gas reading.

Thank you once again for all of your time! It is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Chris,
First I agreee about the searching, but I would think it would be better suited for an automotive repair ask expert ONLY site (as opposed to here where they have all the other ask catagories).
I wish I knew how to do something like that, but I dont. I answer the same questions over and over, but at least the problems seem to be the same all over!
The first question, if I understand is on the temperature control ONLY? Not the fan speed but the actual temp? IF so, I would guess the Temperature door actuator is not moving correct, either full hot or full cold. As long as the HVAC controller is commanding it to the different settings. Best advice would be to have it scanned to see if there are any codes, and also if the controller is commanding the actuator properly.
Second I would REALLY guess you have a Ujoint problem. U joints seem to squeek on some models and your description seems to sound like a U joint noise.
Third, the 2002 Yukon XL and Suburban did have a recall on the fuel tank module. The pass through harness was replaced and a different connector was installed. USUALLY they recall for non compliance to some Federal saftey issue. They sometimes recall for customer satisfaction... but how or why they determine it, I cannot tell you.
It's not actually a saftey issue per say, I would say its more of a personal saftey issue. Dont get me wrong, I agree with you, but I'm just trying to explain the way I see it.
Anyways, I hope all this helps in some way.
Good Luck and ask ANYTIME!!
Good Luck
Pawl
