GMC Repair - 1989 GMC suburban steering column wobbles

Expert: Marc Podeszek - 3/28/2009

Question
Hi Marc:
Coming back from the desert I noticed that the steering column of my 1989 GMC 3/2 ton 4X4 Suburban wobbles )(left right+up/down) I took the steering apart but no luck. The wobble is in the Tilt part where the automatic gear shift is located. If I push against the gear shift, the steering column will be solid.
2 questions: 1) How can I fix that? 2) Is it dangerous to drive the car under these circumstances?
Thanks
Peter

Answer
Yes absolutely Ive had a customer when driving the steering wheel came right off so please get it check sometimes it can be the bolt that holds the steering wheel on or it could be in the column co please get it checked. The good thing about the guy was as soons as it cam off he put it right back on thank God.
