Expert: Tim hagan - 8/5/2009

Question
I have a 1997 GMC Sierra 2500 extended cab, and im replacing the speakers in the doors. I would like to know how to remove the door panels. I got the triangle piece in the corner off and the two screws out of the door handle but now i dont know where to go from there. I dont see how the window crank or door handle/lock are supposed to come off. please tell me what to do

HERE ARE PICTURES OF MY DOOR:

Answer
you will need a special tool to remove the small clip that holds the windown crank on, you can get one at an auto parts store.  Then you will need a small flat blade screwdriver to remove that trim piece around behind the handle, there might be a screw behind that.  Once all the screws are removed, it will be a matter of detaching the panel from the door itself.  IT is held on with plastic retainers that can be very brittle, if you have a trim panel tool that will help, if not you can lay on the ground and look up and with a large flat blade screwdriver try to pry the bottom of the panel loose, after it is loose you should be able to pull firmly and remove the panel
