Gabriel, Peter - Carpet Crawlers w/ Peter Gabriel 1999

Expert: Joseph Dixon - 5/3/2000

Question
Hello, I heard a mp3 recording by Genesis 1999 featuring Peter Gabriel on main vocals. Is this the only song that Peter participated in ? I`m not quite sure if it is a studio recording or live, but the quality is good. Is there more music out there featuring a reunion of sorts of Peter with Genesis that is current?
Any responce would be appreciated, thanks !

Answer
Hello Chuck...

The Carpet Crawlers 1999 is the song you heard.  It was originally meant to be included on the first Genesis box set in 1998, but it wasn't ready in time for that.

It's a studio recording where Steve Hackett, Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins re-did their parts to the song with Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford.

Anyway, this was the only song they did during this short reunion.  The song was included on the Genesis album, Turn It On Again : The Hits, which was a compilation of the band's greatest hits throughout the years released late last year.

There are no plans for the band to re-form for any further work or concerts.

Peter Gabriel has just released the music he did for the Milleneum Dome project, which is available through the official Real World web site, and his new album Up is supposed to be coming down to the wire.  A fall release is rumored.  But then again, that's been rumored each of the last 4 years!  So we'll see on that.

The other members have projects cooking as well at this moment, so it's unlikely that a reunion of any sort would happen this year.

Take care...
Joe
