Subject: Run Line in Baseball

Question
Hi Tony,  I have a question about the Run Line when betting in baseball.  If the team (the Favorite at -1.5) you bet on wins by 2 runs, but the starting pitcher didn't get the "W", instead the closer or a relief pitcher got the win instead, do  you win or lose?

I'm thinking that I would lose because, i believe that the Run Line means that the Starting Pitcher has to get the official Win by 2 or more.  Can you clarify that for me?

Thanks, Dan.

Answer
Dan,
The winning pitcher will have nothing to do with influencing the run-line bet. It is strictly whether the team wins by the 2 run margin. Whether it's a starter or a relief pitcher listed as the winning pitcher, you will collect on your bet....

The only time a pitcher will influence the outcome of whether you collect on a bet in baseball, is when you place a bet as "listed pitcher must start", if in this case the pitcher that was listed when you placed your bet doesn't start, then there is "no action" and your wager is returned. But this has nothing to do regarding your question as to which pitcher is the listed winning pitcher.

Hope this answers your question...you can get more info on betting baseball at www.tonydiamond.com If you have any further questions you can feel free to contact me at anytime

Good luck and have a great day...

Tony
