Question Hi chris, i have a question about a situation. If there's a pair of aces, a pair 8's, and Q on the board, i have J10 in my hand, and my wife has J9 in her hand, who wins
Answer Well... She probably wins because she's your wife, but according to standardized rules it is a tie and you split the pot. In fact if someone else was in the pot with 23 they would also get a part of the pot.
The rule is that you make your best five card hand. In this case the best hand that you an make with J10 is two pair, aces and eights, with a queen kicker. Your hole cards can not improve the board. She can make the same hand as her best hand, so you would split the pot. The 23 can even make the same hand.
If an opponent held a king in his or her hand then they would be able to improve the board by making two pair with a king kicker, so they would win the pot.
