Gambling - Quick question regarding poker...

Expert: Richard Reed - 6/12/2004

Question
Mr. Reed:
Hope I'm not being a pest, but was hoping you might could answer a question for me.
In watching some of the recent poker tournaments on television lately, I came up with a question about Texas Hold 'Em:
Let's say two people are playing...Player A and Player B.  On the deal, Player A gets a king and a low card (let's say a three...doesn't really matter)...Player B gets a queen and a low card.
They both bet and stay in through the end of the hand.  When all five of the community cards have been dealt, they are as follows:  two kings, two queens, and a low card.
So...
Player A has a full house...kings over queens...with three kings and two queens.
Plyaer B has a full house...kings over queens...but he's got two kings and three queens.
Does Player A's full house beat Player B's, since A's "three of a kind" are kings, and B's "three of a kind" are queens?
Always wondered about this...any clarification appreciated.
Warm regards,
David Gardner

Answer
Using your situation, the three kings and two queens wins.  Full houses, flush or straight hands are determined by highest cards.  Anytime you have two hands the same, meaning flush, full house, straight, one pair, two pair, straight flush, the highest cards are the winner.

Respectfully,

Richard Reed
