Gambling - How do you get a job?

Expert: DG - 5/15/2003

Question
How can I get a job dealing Poker and where are the best places to deal?

Answer
You can go to a dealers school which usually helps with placement, but I think they are overpriced for what they do.

You can also just show up at a dealers audition. Most casinos have them about every 60 days. (Turnover is high).
You will learn a little more from each audition and eventually you will get hired. (Also your skin will get a little thicker. A necessary trait.)

A good place to hone your skill is in one of the large poker rooms in L.A. (ie. Commerce or Bicycle Club).

Getting the procedures down isnt as easy as it looks, but you will get tons of practice dealing the lower limit games until procedures become reflex. Work on accuracy first and speed will come. Always be networking with other employees. The guy cleaning the ashtrays today might be a casino manager tomorrow. (Not likely but it could happen).

Many of my friends ended up working for the Indian Casinos. The money seems to be much better and you also get treated better by the management.
