Question
If one player forces all compitition to fold. Must that player show his hand? Must that player have trips, remember, all compitition has all ready folded.

This game is draw 5 card poker

pair to open    trips to win

Answer
No Bob. In Jacks to open, Trips to win, If there are no other players, the last remaining player does NOT have to nor should he show his hand. NOr should he; in some circles it is considered rude and gloating to show a hand when you dont have to. And of course if all other players folded, he wins the pot.

UNLESS HE IS THE OPENER. If he opened the pot and did not have Jacks, then he would be playing a dead hand. Then even if everyone folded, he would not be entitled to the pot. What happens after that is different depending on the house. In Gardena, if the opener did not have openers, the pot would be split among the remaining players. If there were no players it would be split among the players that STARTED the hand, whether or not they folded during the play of that hand. The player that opened without openers would not be included in the split.

Occaisonally when play Jacks or better, trips to win, you might have some players who will try to twist the rules saying that the last remaining player needs trips in order to take the pot. This is not how the game is played. But if they get upset, just tell them that you will keep on playing until you get trips or better. Since you are the only player in the hand, even the simplest of idiots should see the folly in forcing you to play on. Unless there is a good ball game on and they would rather watch TV than play poker.
