About Randall Buie
Expertise
I have watched game shows since the early 60s. I have an extensive library of videos of game shows that span What`s My Line (1952) to Greed (1999). I also have access to reference books which can answer questions such as hosts, network airings, time span, synopsis of shows, etc.

Game Shows - quiz kids

Expert: Randall Buie - 1/4/2003

Question
was there any scandal regarding the quiz kids radio or TV show? Were those kids helped or pre-fed the answers?

jr.

Answer
Hi and thanks for the question.

According to the reference books that I have, there was never any scandal concerning either the radio or TV version of Quiz Kids.

The first TV run of Quiz Kids ended in 1956.  It wasn't until 1958 - 1959 that the US Senate starting hearings on the honesty of game shows in general.  The producers were briefly asked if they indeed did feed answers to the kids.  They challenged anyone to send an accredited test to the kids and they would take it.  The challenge was never accepted.

In the early days of television, it was standard practice to brief contestants and sometimes feed them answers (especially in the high money game shows of the late 50s).  No one can ever be sure that the kids were not fed answers, but if they were it was never made public.

Once again, thanks for the question.

Randall
