Garage Doors/Garage door opens automatically

Hi Expert Mike,

After programming my car's 'Homelink' device to open my garage door, the garage door would open two times a day by itself automatically - one time in the morning and one in the evening. This has NEVER happened before but until now. This Rolling Code 'Overhead Door' Odessey 1000 (Model 7030) garage door opener is fairly new since I moved to this newly constructed townhouse 3 years ago. It also uses CodeDodger wireless handheld remote besides the on wall console.

What could be the problem and how would I be able to fix it?

Thanks for your attention and awaiting your prompt reply.

Hi Alex,

First off I will tell you that I do not like nor do I handle any "overhead door"/Geni equipment. (Geni is owned by Overhead Door Corp. and what you have is actually Geni stuff!)

Let's go to basic's, forget your homelink,(Actually made by Johnson Controls and has nothing to do with the garage door industry!) In your owner's manual it will tell you how to erase the codes in the opener's memory.  Dothis. Code your remote controls designed for the opener into the opener and see what happens over a week. Do not leave the remote controls just "sit" somewhere the buttons could be touched.  If your door "phantoms" (opens / closes by itself, than you have a wire short to the wall pushbutton or a bad push button. If all is good than your homelink is defective. The door opener world today has a multitude of issue's, if all else fails, contact an IDEA accredited door dealer in your area and have them check it out. My personal suggestion to my customer's in this situation is to can the Geni/OH door motor and purchase a Liftmaster product that in my opinion is tried and true.  Hope this helps,

Yours in doors,
