About Miranda
Expertise
I can answer most questions pertaining to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis) as well as the medications, surgeries and tests associated with it. I am not a doctor so please don't ask questions that aren't related to this specific area or close to it because it is not my area of expertise.

Experience
I have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease for over five years and have dealt with the disease since I was twelve years old. I have been through every medication, numerous exams as well as surgery. I have also worked at a camp for chronically ill children the past three summers and two of our sessions are Crohn's and Colitis so I am very familiar with both conditions.

Organizations
Crohn's Colitis Foundation of America, IBD Campus Connection

Education/Credentials
I will be finishing up my Bachelor of Arts in Health and Human Biology this spring and I am currently applying to nursing schools to become a nurse practitioner.

Question
Miranda,

My dad is 49yrs old and he has been experiencing pain in the anus area after eating any sort of spicy food.  If he eats vegetables or juice or something cool to the body, he does not feel a thing.  He said he feels like a liquid is leeking out.  His bowels are normal size.  He had bleeding once and none after that.  He does have an ulcer.  He does not feel nausea, fevers, fatigue, or any pain during bowel movement.  He feels pain if he pushes hard on the bowel while expelling it.  He is under the medication Lisinopril for blood pressure and he eating omega-3 fish oils to reduce risk for coronary artery disease.  PLEASE HELP ME.. I AM REALLY WORRIED ABOUT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
I am sorry to hear that your dad isn't feeling so well. Well a few possibilities that may be causing his pain are: Anal Fissure, Anal Fistula, and a Hemmroid. However I am not saying that these are the only possibilities...these are just what it sounds like to me.
Anal Fissure: these are small tears in the lining of the anus. Symptoms are pain during bowel movements, slight bleeding, can have a leaky feeling, and even can cause a discharge of yellow or light brown color.
Anal Fistula: these are infected or open channels in the anus or other areas of the rectum. Symptoms are pain with bowel movements, blood or pus leakage (not large amounts...just small and uncomfortable), fever (with infection).
Hemmroids: these are just swollen blood vessels, and can cause pain with bowel movements, slight bleeding, and discomfort.
I encourage your dad to see his doctor so that he can recieve a proper diagnosis, and be checked for any type of infection.
At this point he may get some relief by soaking in a warm bath.

Best of Luck

Miranda
