About Miranda
Expertise
I can answer most questions pertaining to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis) as well as the medications, surgeries and tests associated with it. I am not a doctor so please don't ask questions that aren't related to this specific area or close to it because it is not my area of expertise.

Experience
I have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease for over five years and have dealt with the disease since I was twelve years old. I have been through every medication, numerous exams as well as surgery. I have also worked at a camp for chronically ill children the past three summers and two of our sessions are Crohn's and Colitis so I am very familiar with both conditions.

Organizations
Crohn's Colitis Foundation of America, IBD Campus Connection

Education/Credentials
I will be finishing up my Bachelor of Arts in Health and Human Biology this spring and I am currently applying to nursing schools to become a nurse practitioner.

Question
Recently, a hematologist diagnosed me with celiacs. He told me to see a gastroenterologist for management of the disease. I've since learned G.I. doctors do not help with the management of the illness. I'm confused. What type of DR. looks into if proper amounts of vitamins and minerals are being take? I'm really depleted in alot. I know the gluten free diet is mandatory, but who helps with the supplementation? Help Please!

Answer
Well a gastroenterologist can help with the diagnosis of celiac, but generally speaking they dont always deal with the supplementation. You may want to see a dietician or nutritionist so that they can help you find different foods as well as supplements to keep your body healthy. I know many people with Celiac, and although it is not easy at first they are soon able to find many foods that they still enjoy that do not contain gluten. Here are some resources

http://www.wellnessgrocer.com/gluten-free-c-1383.html

This website is to a grocery store type deal over the web for gluten free foods. I'm not advertising for them just looking for a list of gluten free foods that you can look through. I also eat quite a few things gluten free and I have found that this brand of breads, etc is the best, and tastes the best. It is located in Oregon, but you can order off of the web.

This is a website that has pretty much everything celiac in mind. The link is to gluten free vitamins just to give you an idea of price etc. However still consult with a dietician or doctor before taking anything new.

I hope this helps
