About Miranda
Expertise
I can answer most questions pertaining to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis) as well as the medications, surgeries and tests associated with it. I am not a doctor so please don't ask questions that aren't related to this specific area or close to it because it is not my area of expertise.

Experience
I have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease for over five years and have dealt with the disease since I was twelve years old. I have been through every medication, numerous exams as well as surgery. I have also worked at a camp for chronically ill children the past three summers and two of our sessions are Crohn's and Colitis so I am very familiar with both conditions.

Organizations
Crohn's Colitis Foundation of America, IBD Campus Connection

Education/Credentials
I will be finishing up my Bachelor of Arts in Health and Human Biology this spring and I am currently applying to nursing schools to become a nurse practitioner.

Subject: stomach ache

Question
Yesterday, I started out with general intestinal upset. Then last evening the general intestinal upset went away. I did not eat dinner last night. But I then developed a stomach ache (not particularly severe)that came and went in waves and a rapid heart rate of 135 to 140. I had a low grade fever all night and some minor sweating. The fever went as high as 100.9. If this is some benign stomach flu I can deal with it til it passes, but I have been worried that it may be something worse. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Gary

Answer
Well it may be the stomach flu since that bug has been floating around for quite some time. However I am not familiar with the stomach flu causing such a high heart rate. You may want to call your doctor, and address the rapid heart rate to make sure that your blood pressure is ok, and that you aren't dealing with something such as anemia, which can speed up your heart. Eventhough you are feeling ill make sure that you continue drinking adequate amounts of water so that you don't become dehydrated, which in turn can also make you feel sick. It sounds like you may have a bug, but until you see your doc, and have some blood work done, and a general check up it is difficult to say.

Best of Luck

Miranda
