Gastroenterology - prednisolone

Expert: John Thai, MD - 10/21/2009

Question
hi.. just a quick question,

i have ulcerative collitus and i am currently on prednisolone as i had a flair up recently. Is taking prednisolone goin to affect my weight trainingin anyway? will it stunt muscle growth or will it improve it?

thankyou..

Answer
Hi Billy,

Prednisolone should not interfere with your weight training if taken short term. You may notice muscle weakness while on prednisolone. If it is taken as a long term regimen, however, then there is a risk of osteoporosis, loss of muscle mass, and other musculoskeletal defects. It will not improve your muscle mass.
