Gastroenterology - Abdominal Problems

Expert: John Thai, MD - 9/16/2009

Question
I recently had a abdominal ct w/contrast. The report states Scattered prominet calcified anthersclerotic plaque seen in the mid to distal abdominal aorta and proximal common iliac arteries. How serious is this and what can I do medical wise at home?

Answer
hi dale,

this means that the blood supply is clotted in that area. the aorta is a very important blood vessel. there's not much you could do at home to remedy this situation except changing to a healthier nutrition and lifestyle. my best recommendation would be to consult with primary care physician or a cardiologist regarding the severity. they may schedule you for an angiogram or another ct angio for better imaging of the blood vessels. the long term complication is an aneurysm.
