Gastroenterology/chronic constipation

QUESTION: My husband has Parkinson's disease and his GI DR. believes his constipation is mainly due to his Parkinson's.We have tried diets, every laxative on the market, a shot called relistor, amitza, and we are now trying Linzess. He has been on it for about a week and a half and so far no success. Can you suggest anything else keeping in mind that we are very, very  low income and can't try things that our insurance won't pay for. Please feel free to ask us any questions needed to answer our problem. Thank You

Your GI DR is completely right. Connection with Parkinsonís disease and constipation is well known fact. If we understand reasons, it can give a clue for treatment.

Constipation in this case may be a consequence:
1.   The parts of central nervous system (CNS) are involved in the Parkinsonís disease. Possible these centers, by chemical messengers-neurotransmitters. regulate proper motility of the GI tract. It is known that amount of the serotonin in GI tract can be bigger than in the CNS
2.   Common treatment the Parkinsonís disease may also cause constipation
3.   Constipation causes constipation. Expanded by fecal matter colon loses the strength of the smooth muscles, which move the bowels
4.   Constipation is a breeding environment for growth of the harmful bacteria, parasites, yeast. Due to overgrowth they produce a lot of toxins that suppress motility, they cause gas
5.    But what is the most important that during constipation there is lack of the beneficial (friendly)  bacteria, Without beneficial bacteria, everything goes wrong including Parkinsonís disease and constipation
6.   Another reason for constipation is deficiency of the magnesium-potassium

For my patient like your husband, I recommended course of the colon hydrotherapy apart one week, six altogether. I observed the individuals with Parkinsonís disease; a few colon hydrotherapies change their face, mood, activity, and elimination.

During that time I recommended taking, good quality of the probiotics (I prefer Biotherapy Complete Probiotics), large amount of the magnesium/potassium (I prefer Biotherapy Cellular Magnesium-Potassium) 2-4 capsules Biotherapy Lower Bowels Formula

I advice to my patients to make the fresh, raw vegetable blends (smoothie) with tomato, avocado, celery, parsley, greens, etc.

Five prunes, five dry apricots, two teaspoons of the raisins put in the cup of the hot water for an hour. Then, blend it and drink.

Water is his friends. 8-10 cups of plain water can help with constipation.

I wish you and your husband good health.
