Gastroenterology/Nausea after colonostomy

Question
I had a colonostomy 2 weeks ago.

Ever since I have had nausea.  I went back to the gastroenternologist who ran bloodwork and and abdominal ultrasound and all was normal.  However the nausea wont let up. It is all I can do to eat.

He told me to take Prilosetec and that of course is not helping either.

Any suggestions?

Answer
Dear Mary

I hope I understand you well. You have colostomy that is a surgical procedure that brings one end of the large intestine out through an opening (stoma) made in the abdominal wall. Millions people have colostomy and do not have a nausea.
The reasons for nausea may be various.
Central nausea depends upon function of the brain: brain injury, condition after anesthesia, internal toxicity, some medications, etc. It combines with headache, dizziness, vomiting.
Nausea that is connected with gastrointestinal problems such as gastritis, gallbladder disorders, Blockage of the colostomy, constipation, etc. It usually combines with abdominal pain.

It will be unprofessional to give you advice without knowing your medical date.
The simple things, which you may try, are.
•   Liquid diet
•   Eat the slices of lemon
•   Drink peppermint, ginger teas

Acupuncture is the very useful in the case of nausea. Check on http://www.drugs.com/ for possible side effects of your medications.

I can give good advice if you fill up the Biotherapy’s Patient Questionnaire and send it to me by email or fax. http://www.biotherapy-clinic.com/biotherapys-patient-questionnaire.html
