Dear Doctor:
On Mar 1, I began extreme pain R side stomach, on Mar 3 I broke out in rash 1/2 R side, belly button to spine
I went to the doc./ER 5 times and then learned I had shingles.  It appears I do have some. Swelling in the area.

My question regarding my gastro, which is seriously affected by the shingles, I feel Like one huge gas bubble, takes days to relieve, the cycle repeats over and over. It is one month now,  do you think this will run its course with my PC, or should I see a Gastroenterologist?  My most recent colonoscopy is two years, all was well remove some polyps

Dear Eliz!

Besides skin rashes, Shingles-Varicella Zoster Infection may cause digestive problems and even abdominal pain that may mimic inner organs’ disorders. There are some reasons for that.
•    Postherpetic neuralgia may affect viscera
•    Treatment with antibiotics and anti-viral medications may cause dysbiosis (Candida-yeast overgrowth, SIBO-small intestine bacterial overgrowth)
•    Viral infection and treatments may cause low function of the pancreas, indigestion with gas, bloating, flatulence and more
I cannot give you medical advice without knowing your medical date, eating habits, medication, lifestyle, etc.

If you would be my patient, I recommend to take strong probiotics, cellular magnesium-potassium, digestive enzymes, a lot of herbal tea (Chamomile, Peppermint, and Licorice) one week and see the changes. Sorry, I am not the big fun of colonoscopy and removing polyps. In a case of digestive problems, you need to get blood and visual test to verify the diagnose.

I wish you health.

I can answer all questions about digestive health, especially in focus on the non-drug, non-surgery treatment. It includes healing diet, acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional supplementation, healing mineral water, abdominal massage, and cleansing techniques. All these practices are widely used by gastroenterologists all over the world.

This is my everyday job at Biotherapy Alternative Medicine Clinic in San Francisco. I have decades of the experience of working as an MD in ICU, outpatient department and privet practice.
