Any questions identifying an individual's full name, address, telephone number, specific area of residence, or date of birth would be rejected. This also pertains to information regarding minors. Gastroenterology - NV diet pill and Asacol

Expert: John Thai, MD - 4/9/2007

Question
Hello. I am 31 yrs old and I have Ulcerative Colitis. I take Asacol every day, and I also take a multivitamin. I was wondering if taking NV diet pill would interfere with either of these. I also work out and drink lots of water. Thank You

Answer
Hi Hollie,

I would not recommend taking the NV diet pills as it cotnains an herb call hoodia gordonii which suppresses your diet by changing the metabolism of your GI tract. Since you have UC, it is much more important to not disturb the colonic mucosa as it may increase irritation to the colon.

Regards,

John T, MD
