Question Hi, im 17 and im gay and i really want to come out of the closet, even if it is slowly, but i dont know who to trust, i dont really want to tell my family because i know how they will react (i think) but i dont know which friends to tell because i would probebly choose the wrong one to tell and he could end up telling my brother who goes to the same college as me.
Things always get spread about at our college so i really dont know what to do.
Can you give me any sugestions?
Answer Hello Ben,
Your situation is a little bit more difficult than a few others I have come across. Coming out is difficult for many. When it comes down to it, if you want to tell your friends and not your family, you should tell your best friend(s) who you know you can actually trust with this big of a secret. If your family is really going to react that badly, I would definately wait to tell them until I was a little older and was no where near them so that if it was as bad as I thought, I would be able to get away from their negativity.
Good luck and have a lovely night,
