About Adriaan Pretorius
Expertise
Any questions on how to come out, handling people close to you, handling the pressures of being gay in society, going out, seeking a partner, etc. are welcome. I live in South Africa and may have a unique perspective on gay live, as gays do not live openly and have been scorned for a long time here. If you need to speak to someone, and no one wants to listen, I will try my best to be a friend when you have none.

Experience
I am a gay male who have lived the life as someone that had to hide it from everyone for a long time until coming out some years back. I know how it feels to be 'in' and 'out' and have had diverse experiences in relationships. I have had friends who hated gay life, gay bashers, friends who understood me.

Education/Credentials
I have a postgraduate degree in Science. I have worked together with and currently work with homosexual and heterosexuals in my environment.

Gay Life - Oral sex, i know you must be asked this alot.

Question
So I am a teenager and openly gay. I have never sucked a dick before, but i was
wondering when the time comes should  he have a condom on. I know that anal
sex is non-negotionable that you have to wear a condom. But as a gay man
what should i do? I don't want to get aids but i don't think a bj with a condom
would be pleasurable. What do you think?

Answer
Hi there Adam

You can look up the stats for this, but the chances of being infected with oral sex is very little.  The virus needs to travel usually from blood to blood and can't really survive outside the body for too long.  Also, the acidity in one's throat and stomach kills most of the virus, so unless you are positive already, and your partner is positive too, having oral sex without a condom should be safe.  If you want a little more assurance, then don't swallow, spit out!  Take care not to have open sores in the mouth (like a bitten toungue or lip, etc) and take a sip from some alcohol afterwards or go wash out your mouth with toothpaste or mouthwash.

The best protection, of course, it to pick your partners carefully, stick with one if you can :-)

Adriaan
