AboutL. Handiboe Expertise For about 9 yrs., I have been "specifically" attempting to do some of my "own" family research.
I have been concentrating on the Southeast US and certain "surnames" maybe I can help a few people.
Especially perhaps in the DC/VA/NC/MD states-going back to in some cases the 1700s.
Experience I have been doing research in the VA/MD/DC/NC area's of the US.
I also, have been doing some -research on certain "Old Virginia" families.

Question could you please tell me the origin of the last name of whitmire. i know there is a city located in south carolina by that name. My father was born in spartanburg south carolina, if that helps. thank you.
Answer I looked at www.ancestry.com and there is some info re: WHITMIRE and a tree that goes back, according to that "tree" to the 1700's, and their immigration from Germany (Enzweihingen, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany) to Whitmire, Newberry, South Carolina, USA.
There is a George Frederick Whitmire
Birth: 12 Sep 1743
Enzweihingen, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany
Death: Jun 23, 1829
Union, Georgia, USA
Timeline1743

Again, that info and that "tree" are at www.ancestry.com. so it looks like that "surname" was originally GERMAN.
