Question
Hi,
I am wondering if there is any way to find out my family plaid. I know my grandfather's name was Malcolm Huston, I am told it comes from Hugh's Town, County Tyrone, and that Hugh was part of the HUGE MacDonald clan. That is not much information, I know, except that I believe it was Thomas Huston who came to America and settled in PA. Do I have any chance of finding out about the plaid? Thank you for any help you can give.

Answer
I am a Scottish researcher so am not familiar with any wearing of the plaid or tartan in Ireland. There are several Macdonald Tartans and they can be found on www.houseoftartan.co.uk. The surname Huston is known in Scotland as Houston. Other than that I am unable to help you further. It might be worth using a search engine to try to ascertain which tartan your surname is entitled to use.

Charlotte
