Genealogy/Genealogical DNA

I'm very interested in doing a dna test, but choosing which one to take is very complicated (at least to me). I'm a female and I want to know where my paternal ancestors come from (my dad knows very little about his family). Which test should I take?

I have no idea about DNA tests.  That's a question for a doctor or biologist.  If you have information on paternal ancestors, you can search that line; however, I don't know what DNA has to do with a family tree.  It'd seem to be different with every perswon.  Joel
