Question Hi Michael,
It's me with the historical novel again...let me tell you I say "oops" and "ohhhh, shooooot..." a lot while researching and plotting!
Anyway, in late 1795, where in the West Indies could ships of the French navy go for supplies, repairs, etc.? All I can think of right now is Guadeloupe, and I'm not even sure about that.
Thanks!
Carissa
Answer Hello,
1795 was a bad time for French ship to get stuck in the West Indies. France was at war with Britain and Spain, so those colonies were out of the question. They might go to Port-au-Prince Haiti, although there was civil war going on there at the time. They might also head to French Guiana, although there was not much there. Otherwise, they might head for the neutral port of Charleston, SC.
