Subject: praetorian army

Question
could you say something about what was so political in this army. why could they make or break an emperor?

Answer
Hi Jan,

The Praetorian Guard serves as the personal bodyguard of the Emperor of Rome.  If the Guard decided to assassinate the Emperor, it would be pretty easy since they were always around him with their weapons, and no one else to help him.  Therefore the Emperor when out of his way to keep the Guard happy and to ensure only the most loyal soldiers were in the Guard.

I hope this helps!
- Mike
