Question Hi, My son is doing a project on the Australian goldrush in 1850's and needs to know a little about four ways that it affected Australia. We thought it may be the economy, environment, people and government but we need some information. Hopefully you could give us a little help. Thankyou
Answer Hi Tracy,
I think the biggest affect was the population as immigrants rushed in to make money. The population quadrupled in the 20 years following the discovery of gold. These immigrants also led to an great increase in diversity. This also resulted in the policy change against sending convicts from Britain to Austrailia. Another major development was violence as miners fought over claims and against government fees on minors.
