About Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D.
Expertise
I have a long and intense interest in European and World History. This also includes Military History - especially as I have been a military physician-surgeon for 15 years. I`m also interested in the history of Science, Technology-Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics.

Experience
A life long intense interest. But I'm not a professional historian - though the next best thing, an educated VERY interested amateur!

Education/Credentials
I'm a Doctor of Medicine, specialist in Medical Oncology, Radiation Therapy and Radiation Protection. But that has no connection to this.
However I do answer such questions too here on AllExperts.com and have done so for a long time. For such questions click on the appropriate link: Oncology (General Cancer), Military History, Brain Tumors, Breast Cancer, Colon Cancer

Subject: Empires?!

Question
What do you believe is an empire? What is an empire comprised of?

Do you think U.S is an empire? How do empires start?

I need your opinions for an essay! Thanks so much :)

Answer
Well, that was difficult. An empir in my opinion is a political entity that has grown BIG & POWERFUL! Like the Roman Empire or the British Empire. However historically empires (like the Roman & British) included vast areas and a lot of people with no say or part in the political process. So while the US may suit part of the definition above it does not do so completely. Empires normally start with a state that then grow by conquest. That hardly fits present day U.S. either.
If this is not clear enough you are welcome back with more questions!
