Question What is the impact of the Industrial Revolution on society of today?
Any information is appreciated.
Also, I live in Canada, so anything specific to that or I guess just regarding the whole world would be great.
Thank you!
Answer The industrial revolution has been the largest change to civilization since the development of domestic agriculture. Think about every single electrical or mechanical device you use today. Without the industrial revolution, you would have none of it. You would likely be living in a very small house, have one or two sets of clothing, work on a farm from sunrise to sunset to grow enough food just to survive, never travel more than 50 miles from where you were born, and die about 30 or 40 years sooner.
Canada is even more sparsely populated than the US, so cars and other transportation (products of the IR) are critical to how we live our lives. Also, imagine having to heat your home with only a fireplace or wood burning stove (for which you had to go out and cut the wood). Imagine having to walk out to a well to draw your water each morning. Imagine having to use an outhouse every day. Imagine not having an electric light in your house at night. Imagine not having a phone, radio, or television. It would be a very different life.
