Question Default gateway address of my ADSL router is 192.168.1.1. What should I do if I have more than 254 clients on my net and they all need Internet access? When I assign an IP address like 192.168.1.20, it works but when I assign 192.168.10.20 it doesn't access Internet. Do I need to change my router and buy a special model?
Answer Hello,
You will need a larger subnet block to have more client IP addresses. At present, the subnet mask of your client IP's and the gateway will be 255.255.255.0 and that's why you can have 254 clients. To make a larger block, simply change the subnet mask of all IP's to 255.255.254.0 and this will give you 512 client IP addresses, if mask is changed to 255.255.252.o you will get 1024 client IP addresses.
