General Networking/Lan/Wan - VPN use to browse official PC from out of office

Question
QUESTION: Dear Sir

My official network has got workgroup ARAF.COM

I’m out of office now.

I use mail Server in Linux 4.0 where VPN Server is also configured i.e. I can log in VPN Server through Internet connection.

My query is, if I set workgroup as ARAF.COM in the Laptop at present place (where I’m now available) & if I get VPN connection through Internet connection, can I see & browse my official network i.e. browse my user’s PC by following below steps which I usually do when I’m available within my official network?

“My Network Places”-”Entire Network”-”View Workgroup computers”

Appreciate, if you would come back soon.

Regards
Pervez

ANSWER: Hello,

Once you are connected to the office network through the VPN, you get an IP address assigned which belongs to that office network range. Thus you can browse all the network as you would in office, permitting that your ID has the right permissions.

Answer
Hello,

If you are connecting to the office VPN using a dialer, then your network settings will show up a VPN tunnel adapter which will have got an IP address leased out by the Firewall/Router that terminates the VPN at the office edge.

At present, I do not see a DHCP IP address that has been leased out to a VPN tunnel adapter on your PC and in this case, as you are not part of the office network, you are unable to connect to the office LAN.

Are you sure the remote dial-in profiles have been correctly setup on the VPN terminating device? Is there a route defined to the office LAN for the VPN clients?

You need to check these settings.
