Question I am looking into creating a clothing label which focuses on luxury mens dress shirts. I will be using a standard 2.6 markup or 60% margin. So if I am getting the shirt landed for $74, is a price around $190 retail on my website a good price for my end? Also if I ever thought of wholesaling, would I have to wholesale the shirt at 2.5 x as well or is wholesaling a diff topic. What is the avg markup or margin for this area of clothing. Thank you for your time.
Answer Terry, A better question would be, why would someone pay you $190 for the shirt? Is it a name brand? what is the reason for the price? Wholesale is a different area and you would have to make at least 30% and the retailer at least 50%. But again, cost is cost, retail is retail, it is all academic without a compelling reason to buy.
