General Retail Business Issues - Taxes and RN number

Expert: James E. Dion - 10/30/2009

Question
Based on my research, clothing and footwear are not taxed under $100 in new york state.  But not sure if clothing includes accessories such as bags, scarves, and hats.  Also, do I need a separate RN number for each product category?

Answer
Kai

You would have to call the New York State Revenue Department to get the definitive answer to this question. I would suspect that scarves and hats would be considered clothing while bags would not. And I also do not think you need an RN number for each product category, but again, only the NYSRD can help you there too.
