General Retail Business Issues/Starting a Business

Question
I am wanting to open my own business, but I am having a hard time making a decision of which I should open. Should I open a candy store or a bath/body store?

Thank You

Answer
Kristie,  I apologize for the delay in answering this question. What type of store you should open entirely depends on the type of customer you have in your area (a candy store and a bath/body store have very different customers) and also the competition. Is there already a bath/body shop nearby or can your potential customers purchase those items on the web. Candy is often a more impulsive purchase and therefore less likely to be purchased on line. But also, you have to sell an awful lot of candy to make any money. Research your trade area, see what type of stores are missing and what customers are driving out of their way to shop. You can also get a copy of my book on starting and running a retail business.  Good luck!
