Question
Hello:

How many stocks comprise the Standard & Poors 500?  Are there 100 stocks?
If you see the information at http://thestockmarketwatch.com/markets/sandp/today.aspx, there are 100 companies listed. Is this list complete, or are there more companies?

I thank you for your reply.

Answer
It's about 500 - just go to the S&P site or many others to find the list (do a web search). You might be looking at a list that only shows 100 at a time. The number can be slightly less than 500 at times as companies are merged out of existence, and can be over 500 if Standard & Poors includes multiple share classes of a stock - e.g. for Google Inc.
