Hi, thanx so much for taking the time out to read this. I am looking for a breakdown of all Nasdaq stocks by sector. I know I can get the basic breakdown for the Nasdaq site and places like Yahoo, but I am looking for is a little more specific. I need these sectors broken down into as specific an industry as possible. For example: a stock like Rambus is in the semiconductor index but more specifically theyre involved with DRAM, and therefore have specific competitors. Also, companies like Millenium, Affymetrix and Amgen are all biotechs, but all do very different things within the sector.
Im basically trying to compile a list of Nasdaq stocks (top 500-1000) by theyre specific sector.
I was hoping to find a website that has done that already.
Any help on the subject is greatly appreciated.
Thanx- Steve
Answer -
Steve, the one thing I can recommend is to contact S&P Compustat, at compustat.com. Then go to the compustat data section (under IN THIS SECTION). They keep data for over 54,000 stocks. You may be able to obtain what you are looking for, but it may not be for free.
Good Luck.
AnswerHi Steve - I pasted this from the browser:

Try doing a google search on the word compustat. When I do this in google, the first result is Standard & Poors IMS Home with the address www.compustat.com
Sorry you are having trouble.
