Question What qualities do you feel are needed to become a surgeon?
Answer Surgical training is long and difficult, taking as many as fourteen or fifteen years after college graduation. The successful surgeon is first an excellent student who enjoys using their hands. Having an artistic side is a definite plus. The individual must enjoy intimate personal contact with sick patients, not shrink from difficult decisions and have an exceptional capacity for hard work.
