Answer Dear Harold,
Swimming after surgery is usually okay after the incision has healed and been checked by the surgeon. This is usually about two weeks or so after the surgery. Carrying anything heavy (over ten pounds) after hernia repair will take about six to eight weeks or more before it can be done safely. The person that should be asked this question is the surgeon. He will be seeing you at a follow-up appointment and then let you know what you should or shouldn't be doing.
