Question
hello i am a 25f and am having a diagnostic laparoscopy on 3/14. yesterday my dentist gave me pennecilin for a tooth infection. i cant talk to my surgeon until tuesday but i was wondering if this will postpone the surgery or make it more risky, i am having general anastesia. thank you. im suppose to take the pills until wed and the surgery is friday

Answer
Dear Tiffany,

The tooth infection should not postpone the surgery unless it is an infection that is not under control. Having a week's worth of antibiotics should help you to heal from this problem. On Tuesday you should call the surgeon and inform him of the dental issues and what the dentist has prescribed. The surgeon will want to know if you have or had an elevated temperature, this is one sign of an infection.

What you can do this week to help yourself is to continue to eat well and choose healthy foods, drink plenty of water, liquids and to get rest to let your body heal and refresh itself.

Please feel free to contact me again if you have any further questions or concerns.

Good luck and feel better soon!
