General Surgery/uvula gone?

Question
Im not sure how much you can help me, no one is currently in any of the categories that really go with my question.
I had my tonsils removed about 2 years ago. Right after the surgery my uvula was touching my tongue pretty badly, it was a good 3 inches long. The dr assured me it was fine and was just swollen. Since then I have not really payed much attention to it except when I went to the dentist recently and she asked where my uvula went. Its gone 100%, there is not even a small bump where it should be, its totally flat back there.
Where could it have gone and is it bad not having it? Im assuming not since Im fine but it seems odd that it just went away like that.

Answer
Dear Amber,

The uvula is a piece of tissue with no specific purpose. Many people are not born with one, with others it just disappears. It is nothing to be concerned about. The plus side is you will not have a problem with snoring, since this tissue is the culprit for all the noise.
