General Surgery/Triple Hernia Surgery

Question
Hello . I am a bit concerned for my father. He had Triple Hernia surgery back in Nov 2015. It is obviously now March 2016. My question is what is normal recovery for something like this. Everything seemed to be going well. Then in January he had what appeared to be a bruise under the skin. According to the Doctors it was blood between the skin and stomach lining. So now since January he has had to go back and be packed with Gauze everyday. As of today the 9th of march they are saying this may go on for another 3 weeks. I am really concerned that they did something wrong here. He is on Cumiden but still I cant believe it would take this long to be done. Please let me know what you think. THANKS SO MUCH.

Answer
Hi Brandy,

If he remains on the Coumadin, it will take longer to stop the bleeding. You may want to consider getting an ultrasound to assess the amount of blood in the area. You may also want to consider speaking with the provider who put him on Coumadin to see if there is a possibility that he can come off of it for a short while in order to stop the bleeding and allow the area to settle down.
