Question
Dear Anil Aluri MD,
Sorry for the short details on my wife's condition. When I called her before she went to the hospital, she explained to me that her stomach was hurting and that she was vomitting but nothing was coming out and later couldn't remember anything untill she woke up in the hospital. Her right fallopian tube was also removed. She also just told me that she had some kind of cancer like dots showed up on her sonogram and thats why the doctor in Korea decided to remove part of her intestine. Again my apologize MD for not including this information before. My greatest gratitude to you Mr. Aluri

Question -
Dear Anil Aluri,
My wife had surgery while i was away one time. I was not there with her so I'm not sure what happened. At this time she was in S. Korea, so the language barrier was a big issue. For what she gathered from the doctor, she found that she had some problem with her small intestine and some had to be removed immediately. Now she has stitches on her intestine and outside her stomach. We are worried now since she might be pregnant (1 week late period) what would happen if her stitches strech to far and break? Sorry for the brief history and thank you so much for your sound and proffesional advice.

Answer -
Dear Jose,

By the History that you are giving me it sounds as if your wife had a congenital band around her intestine which led to her having surgery, however I would need some more history to make that a confirmatory diagnosis. What were her symtoms at the time of the diagnosis in Korea? As for the second part of the question,Pregnancy is not a problem for patients who have had intestinal surgery. The sutures are absorbed in 4-8 weeks after surgery at which time the body heals from forming granulation tissue(Scar Tissue) and this constantly remodels for approximately 6-12 months after surgery.

Answer
Dear Jose,

It's hard for me to say exactly what your wife had done in Korea, but from the later part of the question in Pregnancy, I think you will be safe with the issue of pregnancy, you should not have any problems with the pregnancy and the sutures breaking. But let me be the first to congratulate you on the pregnancyKeep in touch, if you have any details you can always e-mail me at the allexperts website and I will try to answer your questions in a timely fashion.
