Question
Hello there

Hope you are fine!

I have a question. Is the following sentence correct? And if not, please tell me why it is not.

"Who did you say that took the book?"

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you a lot
Best to you

Answer
Hi Hame!

Sorry for the very late reply!

It is incorrect by itself.  You could modify it slightly to make it correct:

"Who did you say IT WAS that took the book?"

But going this far is unnecessary.  You could also simplify it this way:

"Who did you say took the book?"

And it would mean virtually the same thing.

Hope that helps!
