General Writing and Grammar Help/answer to the question

Dear Johnson
i know that the common usage for this phrase is "the answer TO this question..." but is it not possible to use "the answer OF this question.."
honestly speaking, it sounds perfectly good but one of the English teachers says "no, the latter is incorrect because the question does not own it." then what about the cause of the accident or many others, does the accident own the cause? etc..can you enlighten us on this please? is it possible? why/why not?
thanks a lot

Hello Morat

It is not possible to use "the answer OF this question.." because it is not English.

These matters are not decided by logic, but commonly accepted use

You could also NOT say "the answer in  at  for  with  by this question" for the same reason

the correct use of these propositions just has to be learned.

Here's a guidance note on the subject

Hope that helps

Best wishes
