Catherine, a "radio button" is when, in a list of items, you may make only one choice.  "Check boxes" allow one to select multiple items from a list of choices.  For instance, imagine an electronic menu that asks "Which bread would you want on your sandwich?" followed by radio buttons of *white; *wheat; *rye; or *sourdough. (No duplicates are allowed).  That initial question might be followed by "Which toppings would you want on your sandwich?" -- followed by tomatoes, lettuce, jalapenos, cheese, bacon, pickles, mayo, -- and the individual may choose multiple selections.  Hope that helps!
