QUESTION: Hello,
I'm doing my final research paper and I am not sure and how to separate the following sentence without doing a comma splice or run on.

------I decided to explore the genealogy from my mother side of the family because my grandparents are from beautiful different cities in Colombia, as well as they had their ten children in diverse parts from Colombia.----

I'm not sure if  " as well as" is well separated from the followed " they had their ten children in diverse parts from Colombia"...?????Am I missing a comma??

Here's my version.

I decided to explore the genealogy from my mother's side of the family, because my grandparents are from beautiful different cities in Colombia. In addition to this, they had their ten children in diverse parts from Colombia.

If in doubt. keep sentences short.

QUESTION: Thank you for your suggestion. I have another question i want to add my mom's and dad's name to the following sentence. How can I make sure I add this names with the correct punctuation??

My mom Maria Victoria Buitrago Marin and dad Juan Carlos Garcia Cruz met right after my mom moved in next to my dadís house to begin a new a life

Answer
Very technically, no punctuation is required - but you would make it easier to read like this:

My mom Maria Victoria Buitrago Marin, and my dad Juan Carlos Garcia Cruz met right after my mom moved in next to my dadís house to begin a new a life.
