Question
Greetings, would you advise on which of the following is correct:

Grandma Ama was too weak to care for both he and his sister.

or,

Grandma Ama was too weak to care for both him and his sister.

Cheers, Don

Answer
Dear Don:

Grandma Ama was too weak to care for both him and his sister.

*** HIM

REASON:  "For" is a preposition.  Prepositions must have objects.  Objects are always in the "objective case."  In your sentence, "for" has two objects.  Both the pronoun [him] and the noun [sister] are in the objective case.

"He" is the nominative case, which is used for subjects.
