Answer
Dear Paolo:

Which of the following sentences is grammatically correct?

1) The folder is IN the upper/lower left hand corner of the desktop.

2) The folder is ON the upper/lower left hand corner of the desktop.

3) The folder is AT the upper/lower left hand corner of the desktop.

*** Picture the desk.  It has a top, and it has drawers.  If you were
to place the folder IN a drawer, then the proper preposition would be IN.

However, this folder is not placed inside the desk; it is on top of the
desk.  That leaves you two choices:  #2 and #3.

Is it more logical to place a folder ON a desk or AT a desk?  My answer is
ON, so #2 is the correct sentence.
